Distance education or distance learning, or D-Learning is a practice of imparting and delivering education on an individual basis to the students who are located away from the classroom but there study material is dispatched to them to prepare for their exams held annually or semester wise. Distance learning provides access to learning when the source of information and the learners are separated by time and distance, or both.
Technologies used in distance learning

2. Asynchronous learning- in this mode of learning process the participants can access course materials flexibly on their own choice of schedules. Students are not required to be together at the same time. Some examples are message board forums, e-mail, video and audio recordings, print materials, voice mail and fax.
These two methods can be combined. Courses offered by in distance learning use periodic sessions of residential or day teaching to supplement the remote teaching. The concerned University or institute use a collaboration of technologies and a blend of learning moralities for e.g. face-to-face, distance and hybrid all under the name of distance learning.
